When I joined the Camp Cody family as a music counselor, I typically only had 2-3 campers in my activity periods. By the end of the summer, I had almost 20 campers in my activity periods with more campers begging to switch into music. This is the moment that I fell in love with teaching music, and it showed me that attitude really is everything! One experience that really stood out to me during my time at Camp Cody was during an Arts Showcase, an event that happens once a session to show off the work that everyone has been putting in during their time here. There was a pioneer girl who wanted to perform and play the ukulele so she came to rehearsal every day trying to learn. We spent 4 rehearsals working with her so that she would be able to perform, and she did so well at the showcase! She earned a standing ovation and I was so proud of how much she had grown during our short time together. It’s moments like that that make me realize the impression that these campers leave on you, and how special of an environment Camp Cody is.
