How to Find the Best New Hampshire Summer Camp

Camp Cody Team 09/11/2020

It’s never too early to start browsing summer camps for your child! New Hampshire offers some of the best scenery, hiking trails, natural waterways, and outdoor adventure parks. Whether it’s your child’s first time or you’re looking to switch camps, you’ll want to make sure you’re doing thorough research so you can choose the best New Hampshire summer camp.

Take a Tour of the Summer Camp

If you live nearby, contact the camp directly to see if you can take a tour of the camp or see if they have virtual options. You’ll want to get a feel for the campus to explore all areas of the camp. What do the bunks look like? Do they have fields and courts? Are they located on water? Make sure you ask plenty of questions when you tour the facility so you and your child feel comfortable. If you’re taking the tour virtually, feel free to email the camp or give them a call with any questions.

How Long Has the Camp Been Established

You’ll want to choose a summer camp that has a history. Newer camps are still getting into the swing of things so there could be some growing pains. Make sure to read the camp’s About Us section to see how the camp came to be. A camp that has been around for a while also shows that campers continue to come back year after year and they’re consistently improving to accommodate campers’ needs.

Check Out the Activities

This is one of the main factors when it comes to choosing a summer camp in New Hampshire. Some summer camps may cater to only one activity while others have several activities for kids to try out. Check the summer camp activities to see if they can accommodate your child. Is your child interested in water sports? Perhaps they want to get involved in arts and crafts. Make sure you discuss with your child what they’re looking to do!

Living Accommodations

Another step to selecting the best New Hampshire summer camp is to research the accommodations. You’ll want to explore the counselor to camper ratio, how many bunks are in a cabin, and bunk rules. The living accommodations play a major role in your child’s comfortability so be sure to see how they decide who goes into which bunk.

Our Pioneers program is designed for our youngest campers while our Juniors program is designed for the next age bracket of 10-11 year olds. Each program has been specifically created for each age group to help them progress through camp. For instance, Inters (ages 12-13) can choose five electives and maintain their schedules. They can also explore the Northeastern Region of camp and go on more strenuous hikes!
