For many campers, summer at Camp Cody means one thing: getting out on Lake Ossipee.
Our waterfront is one of the busiest and most exciting places at camp. On any given day, you might see campers learning to waterski for the first time, racing across the Wibit, heading out in kayaks, or simply jumping into the lake with their friends.
With activities for different ages, interests, and experience levels, campers do not need to arrive as strong swimmers or experienced water athletes to enjoy everything our waterfront has to offer.
Make a Splash at the Waterfront
Sometimes the best way to spend a summer afternoon is simply having fun in the water.
Campers can challenge their friends on our Wibit inflatable waterpark, relax on floating aqua lounges, or jump into a game of water volleyball, water basketball, or water polo.
There is plenty of room for campers who want to be active and just as much opportunity for those who would rather float, swim, and spend time with friends.
For many campers, these are the moments that make the waterfront one of their favorite places at Cody.
Explore Lake Ossipee
Not every adventure on the lake needs to happen at full speed.
Canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, and pedal kayaking give campers the chance to explore Lake Ossipee while learning new skills and enjoying time on the water with friends.
These activities are also a great opportunity for campers to build confidence. Something as simple as learning how to steer a kayak or balance on a paddleboard can give a child a real sense of accomplishment.
And with the mountains surrounding the lake, it is a pretty incredible place to learn.
Learn to Waterski and Wakeboard
One of the highlights of our waterfront program is getting behind the boat.
Campers have opportunities throughout their session to try waterskiing and wakeboarding, with our instructors helping them progress based on their individual experience level.
For beginners, that might mean learning the basics and experiencing the excitement of getting up on skis for the very first time. More experienced campers can continue developing their technique and challenging themselves with new skills.
There is also tubing for campers who simply want the thrill of getting out behind the boat and enjoying the ride.
The best part is watching a camper accomplish something they were not sure they could do and seeing their friends celebrate right along with them.
Build Confidence in the Water
Having fun at the waterfront also means helping campers become safer and more confident swimmers.
Our instructional swim program allows campers to strengthen their swimming skills with support from our lifeguarding team. Lessons focus on helping campers become more comfortable in the water while developing skills appropriate to their individual ability.
Whether a camper is still building basic confidence or working to become a stronger swimmer, our goal is to help them feel successful and comfortable in the lake.
Something for Every Camper
Not every camper arrives at Cody dreaming about waterskiing, and that is exactly why we offer so many different ways to enjoy the waterfront.
Some campers love the adrenaline of the Wibit and boat sports. Others would choose an afternoon paddleboarding with friends every time. Some simply love jumping into Lake Ossipee on a warm summer day.
Whatever their style, there is a place for them on the water.
And often, the camper who arrives saying, “I’ve never done that before,” is the one asking to do it again by the end of the session.
Summer on Lake Ossipee
The waterfront is about much more than water sports. It is where campers cheer each other on, try new things, cool off on hot afternoons, and make the kind of memories that define a Cody summer.
From a first waterskiing lesson to an afternoon spent floating with cabinmates, every camper gets the opportunity to experience what makes summer on Lake Ossipee so special.
