As the winter days become more frigid, it’s important to make sure you’re doing everything you can to take care of yourself. It can be easy to fall out of healthy habits during this time, which is why it’s so important to ensure that you actively keep those routines up. So you can come out of winter and jump into spring as your best self.

Here are four tips for how you can keep yourself healthy this winter.

Wash Your Hands Often

Winter is peak cold and flu season. Along with another virus that we’re sure you’re sick of hearing about. So, it’s important to remember to wash your hands regularly. Washing your hands is the most effective way to remove infectious germs from them, and prevent the spread of contagious illnesses. Remember to get a good lather on your soap, and wash with warm water for 20 seconds.

Take Care of Your Skin

The cold can really do a number on your skin, leaving you with dryness, flaking, and cracking. So, it’s important to make sure you’re taking proper care of it. To keep your skin healthy and hydrated throughout the winter, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, and moisturizing it with a lotion. And don’t forget to apply sunscreen. Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean the sun can’t damage your skin.

Eat Nutritiously

It’s important to make sure you’re eating healthy during these chilly months to help your immune system stay in tip-top shape, as well as to ensure you don’t come out of winter sporting a few extra pounds. Eat a diet full of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains. Eating more garlic, mushrooms, citrus, herbs and spices can also help give your immune system an extra boost. And don’t forget the chicken soup!

Stay Active

While the freezing temperatures and shorter days might make you want to stay indoors, it’s important to get out of the house and stay active. Or, at the very, least find ways to exercise in the house. Now would be a good time to invest in that workout machine you’ve been eyeing. If the cold doesn’t bother you, then go for a run, or head over to the gym. Or, participate in one of the various winter activities you can do this time of year. The important thing is to keep your body moving to keep you healthy.

When the winter finally thaws, and the summer rolls around, you’ll want to get your little ones outside again. And camp is a great way to do that. At Camp Cody we help our campers break out of their comfort zones and push past their limits. With the wide range of activities we offer, campers will be able to grow their current passions, and discover new ones.
