Connection to Camp
5 Years • Cody Camper
I have loved my experiences at Camp Cody throughout the past five years, and coming back each year and connecting with new people from all over the world is really special to me. My leadership and independence started a few years ago when my mom suggested I try the rowing program at camp. I was really afraid of messing up in front of new people, but my counselors made my experience amazing and made me feel comfortable on the water. That experience led me to my now favorite sport which has changed my life for the better through lessons of perseverance and strength. This experience inspired me to take part in the Camp Cody Teen Leadership program, where I now assist with the rowing program.
I have also learned a lot through my sister cabin this summer. A few of the girls raised concerns of teasing with me and I learned the importance of hearing all sides of a story and staying level-headed. My counselors served as great role models for me as well and we were able to calmly remedy the situation between the campers. I also learned that the best leaders know how to take negativity with a grain of salt and that they always hold compassion for those that they lead. I’m really looking forward to continuing to grow my leadership skills as I become a counselor!
