Why New Hampshire is the Perfect Place for a Summer Camp

Camp Cody Team 03/12/2020

New Hampshire is recognized for its picturesque location and proximity to gorgeous hiking trails, lakes, and mountain ranges. With plenty to see and do in New Hampshire, especially in the summer, the Granite State has been recognized as one of the best summer camp destinations.

New Hampshire is the Birthplace of Summer Camp

Did you know the first children’s summer camp opened on Squam Lake? In 1881, Ernest Balch opened Camp Chocorua where he encouraged teen boys to get outside and explore nature. Campers gained independence, learned resourcefulness and spirituality. Since then, there has been 450 overnight summer camps in New Hampshire!

Unbeatable Summer Weather

Summers in New Hampshire range from 70°F (21.1°C) to 85°F (29.4°C) and while there is some humidity, there are ample places to cool off. The grass is greener, flowers are in full bloom and the lakes and streams are starting to heat up.

Connecting to a Natural Environment

Because New Hampshire is filled with breathtaking quarries and granite formations, campers can easily unplug from their busy lives and connect with nature. There’s a number of rivers that flow through the mountains, perfect for a lazy day of river tubing. New Hampshire’s natural environment opens the door to whitewater rafting trips and hiking opportunities.

Exciting Day Trip Opportunities

New Hampshire is centrally located to other beautiful New England states and the Granite State is also home to several dynamic cities and towns, making this the perfect place for a relaxing day trip. From hiking trails and waterfalls to charming towns which boast boutiques and coffee shops, New Hampshire truly has it all.  Getting off campus for the day and exploring all that New Hampshire has to offer is something summer campers truly appreciate.

If you’re interested in sending your child to summer camp, take a look at Camp Cody’s exciting opportunities. Our summer camp, located in Freedom NH, accommodates campers ages seven to sixteen. With plenty of activities including football, basketball, volleyball, lake tubing, and paddleboarding, there’s never a dull moment at Camp Cody!
